Is DNA Appliance Therapy a Way to Address the Root Cause of Sleep Problems?

Most treatments for airway issues manage the problem rather than fix it. A mask keeps things open only while you're wearing it. An appliance holds your jaw in position only while it's in your mouth. As soon as you take it off, you're back to where you started.

The DNA appliance works differently. At Le Denté, it's used specifically to work with your body's own growth potential, gradually helping the upper arch develop more space over time instead of just managing the symptom night after night. This procedure addresses the actual structural reason your airway feels restricted in the first place, guided by a team that treats airway health as a genuine speciality, not an add-on service. It takes patience; there's no getting around that, but for patients who'd rather fix the root cause than depend on a device forever, that trade-off tends to feel worth it.

Is DNA Appliance Therapy Right for You?

Because the best treatment is not one-size-fits-all. It is the one that fits your needs. This therapy suits a specific profile rather than everyone with disturbed sleep. After examination and imaging we will tell you plainly whether you fall inside it, and what we would recommend instead if you do not.

Often considered for (icon list):

  • A narrow upper arch or high, vaulted palate
  • Mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea confirmed by testing
  • Snoring alongside crowded upper teeth
  • Habitual mouth breathing and blocked nasal breathing
  • Patients who cannot tolerate CPAP
  • Patients who would rather avoid surgical expansion
  • Crowding where extractions have been suggested elsewhere
What is the DNA Appliance

How Is DNA Appliance Therapy Different From a Traditional Sleep Appliance?

Oral Appliance DNA Appliance
What it does Holds the lower jaw forward while worn Encourages the upper arch to develop over time
When worn Every night, ongoing Around 12 to 16 hours daily, for a defined period
Effect Works while it is in the mouth Aims at a change that remains after treatment
Timeframe Immediate Usually 12 to 24 months
Best for Patients wanting results tonight Patients willing to invest time in the underlying structure

Note under table: Neither is better in the abstract. Which suits you depends on your test results, your anatomy and how you would prefer to live with treatment. That is a consultation conversation, not a website one.

What Does the DNA Appliance Treatment Process Look Like?

Clinic Video
1

Step 1. Assessment

Airway examination, CBCT imaging, 3D scans and a review of your sleep test results. If you have not been tested, we arrange it first.

2

Step 2. Planning

Your case is assessed against what the appliance can realistically achieve, and we discuss the alternatives honestly before you decide.

3

Step 3. Fitting

Your appliance is custom made and fitted, with clear guidance on wear time. Most patients adapt within a few days.

4

Step 4. Adjustment

You return periodically for small adjustments. Progress is tracked with scans and measurements rather than impressions.

5

Step 5. Review

Once development is complete, we reassess your airway, your bite and your symptoms, and discuss what, if anything, is needed to hold the result.

How Do You Know If DNA Appliance Therapy Is Working?

Your arch, airway and symptoms are measured at intervals throughout, and you are shown the comparison. If the response is not what we expected, we will tell you and change course rather than continue for the sake of finishing.

Can DNA Appliance Therapy Change Your Bite or Jaw Position?

Widening the upper arch alters how your teeth meet, which is why this therapy belongs with a dentist who works with bite and jaw function daily. Your bite is recorded with T-Scan and monitored throughout, and some patients need alignment afterwards to settle everything comfortably. We plan for that from the beginning rather than discovering it at the end.

Can DNA Appliance Therapy Help Children With Sleep & Airway Concerns?

Children have their own approaches, since a growing jaw can be guided far more easily than an adult one. For children who snore, mouth breathe or show crowding early, MyoBrace and other growth guidance options are usually the better starting point. We assess and advise on the whole picture at one appointment.

I broke my teeth while climbing and had only five days to get everything done. Dr. Rashida was the only one who could deliver in that timeframe—scans, fillings, everything. It was smooth, efficient, and gave me not just a perfect smile but a functional one. Truly an amazing experience at Le dente Clinic.

Questions Patients Ask Us Most About the DNA Appliance

Dr Rashida Awards

Is it painful?

No. The forces used are very light, which is precisely why treatment takes months rather than weeks. Most patients report pressure rather than pain after adjustments.

How many hours a day do I need to wear it?

+

Generally around 12 to 16 hours, mostly evenings and overnight. Consistency matters far more than intensity, and results depend heavily on wearing it as advised.

Can I speak and eat with it in?

+

You remove it to eat. Speech takes a few days to adapt, and most patients find it unremarkable within a week.

How long does treatment take?

+

Typically 12 to 24 months, depending on your starting point and how consistently the appliance is worn. We will give you a realistic estimate after your assessment.

Will it cure my sleep apnea?

+

We would not promise that. Many patients see meaningful improvement in symptoms and airway measurements, but outcomes vary with anatomy and severity. Your results are measured objectively, and we reassess with a repeat sleep test rather than relying on how you feel.

Do I still need my CPAP during treatment?

+

If it has been prescribed for you, yes, unless your physician advises otherwise. Treatment does not mean abandoning care that is currently protecting you.

Will it change how I look?

+

Some patients notice subtle changes in the width of their smile as the upper arch develops. Facial change is not the purpose of the therapy and should not be the reason for choosing it.

Is it the same as braces?

+

No. Braces move teeth into alignment. This appliance works on the arch that holds them, and alignment may still be wanted afterwards.

What happens once treatment finishes?

+

We reassess your airway, bite and symptoms, and discuss whether retention, alignment or any further treatment would be worthwhile.
